You are 1!
So many new milestones everyday. You are picking up new words so quickly! Today you said "nana" pointing at a banana, and yesterday you said "Duck!" holding up a rubber duck in the bath!
You are not walking yet (which Mommy is thankful for!) You cruise along any furniture all the time. You have not stood yet either, by yourself, not holding on to anything.
A few months back though you did learn the regular way to crawl though, because your first crawl for a while (a month or two) was an army crawl! It was so funny! You would just pull yourself with your arms across the floor!
Your hair is getting so long and curly. I love it. It is starting to look like you have wings flipping out over your ears. I'm sure many think we should cut it, and it's coming, but the back of your hair is all curls at your neck and it's the sweetest baby hair. Golden light brown, with your big blue eyes, and your cute baby teeth coming in, when you smile.... just the most gorgeous baby!
It's true, not all babies are cute, but all the time I think you could be a little baby model. You just look like a classic adorable baby!
Isaac loves to take whatever (any and everything) you are holding, and that drives you and me both crazy! You are getting to where you want to play with Isaac. You will crawl over to him and sit next to him and play or read books. Something fun that I love - Isaac will tip over his big red chair and hide underneath it, and then you crawl up and poke your head under and find him, and you both just giggle and giggle so loudly! That is the first thing you guys have done together to play and laugh together.
This morning you held up a piece of cereal and I ate it out of your hands, and you loved that! Huge smiles and laughs! So you fed me some more and Isaac fed me, and you both loved it!
We have a walker toy that you can push and walk behind and it plays music. I love to set you up with that at one end of the room and watch you take off to the clear other end. You walk so fast, sometimes your feet get out from under you (you're trying to keep up with momentum and get drug behind the toy faster than you can go!) and you trip and fall. But you love the independence, and the first time you did it, you were SO proud! You knew you just did something new, and something fun and a big deal! You know to move your feet and walk, but the doctor said you are just afraid to step out and take a first step on your own. She said that probably one day you will be playing with Isaac and just take off after him without even thinking about it and catch yourself walking on your own! Your fear has to be forgotten about.
You LOVE music. When we hear music on TV, or we sing songs, or Daddy plays music on his phone while you boys bathe, you shake your head back and forth and dance, and shake your arms, and bob up and down! If you are standing, you bend your knees up and down and dance that way, bobbing your whole body up and down! You mostly shake your head fast back and forth! :)
You are eating almost 100% table food! Within the past few weeks you started rejecting jar food, and sometimes we still try to give it to you if we don't know what else to feed you, but you have to have finger foods on your tray that you can pick up and feed yourself, and then if you are distracted with that, I can swoop in and feed you jar food in between the bites of snacks you feed yourself.
I want the jar foods because that is a way to ensure you are getting fruits and veggies, though you also do pretty well with bite size cut up fruits and veggies. We buy frozen peas and a veggie mix (corn, carrots/peas) and thaw that and you will for the most part pick those up and eat them. You LOVE cut up grapes. You also love pear!
You love veggie straws (chips), goldfish, yogurt, cheese, .... we just started chicken nuggets this week and you are loving that! We still are not just feeding you whatever we eat, like we do with Isaac, because you only have 7 teeth and you are still learning to chew and eat and not gag! You will gag if the pieces of food are too big.
You still LOVE a bottle, but we are trying to wean. Just this week I cut out your afternoon bottle that I have been sending to your babysitter and Mothers Day Out classes during the week. So as of this week you are only getting a bottle in the morning as soon as you wake, and a bottle at night right to go to bed. We also are pretty much weaned from formula to soy milk. We've been doing that weaning process for about a month left, and you only have a few ounces left of powdered formula that will be gone in a day or two. Then you'll be on 100% soy milk for your bottles. I did give you some whole cow's milk a few weeks ago and it upset your stomach and you had diarrhea, just like Isaac did at your age when we gave him cow's milk first from formula. So with him we switched to soy milk and it worked great, so we are doing the same with you! I forget when, but we eventually switched Isaac to whole cow's milk, and he does great with it now. You are fine with all other dairy (cheese/yogurt), so we know one day you'll be fine with whole milk as well.
I'm loving how much cheaper soy milk is than formula! Ha! :)
When you want a bottle, or when you see us making your bottle, you say "Baba!"
The other day at the babysitter, I didn't send a bottle, but she also keeps 2 other little boys, and she made a bottle for the other baby, and you saw it and crawled towards it, and had a fit and screamed for "BABA", so.... she gave it to you! His bottle! It was just formula, but I have no idea what kind of formula, but she said it settled you and you went right to sleep after! Ha!
You take a morning nap around 9, and an afternoon nap around 12:30 or 1pm. At home, I hold you and walk around with your head on my shoulder with your lovey there under your head, in your dark room with your sound machine on, and you are pretty easy to get down! Sometimes you fall asleep on me and I put you down, but a lot of the time I just walk with you for a while to settle you (and you know it's nap time), and you get quiet and suck your thumb, and then I lay you down still awake, and you fall asleep on your own. When you are tired, if you get ahold of any blanket or towel, etc., you will hug it and instantly suck your thumb. Holding the blanket triggers you to suck your thumb! One time you did it in the living room when you found a kitchen dish towel on the floor, you picked it up, hugged it and sucked your thumb! Knew it was time to put you down! You never suck your thumb otherwise. Only with a blankie, and when you are tired.
You are pretty good about playing by yourself. There are a lot of times when you crawl to the kitchen gate crying for Mama (if I'm in the kitchen) (you love Mama!), but the majority of the time, I can set you down by the toys and you are pretty content for a good while on your own playing, so I can get some things done!
You definitely prefer Mama over anyone else. When I walk in the room you look at me and whisper "Mama", and then crawl towards me. You whisper most of your words. You are pretty quiet. You will screech and scream and babble very loudly(!), but when you say real words, you whisper them.
You sleep from 6:30pm to 5:30am most days. You used to sleep until 6:30am, but we just had to turn our clocks back for fall last week, and since then, you still wake up at the same time, just one hour earlier on the clock now. :(
You are wearing size 18 month clothes, size 4 shoes, and size 5 diaper.
At your well-check-up at 9 months old, the doctor was afraid you might have a lazy eye (Meme has said this before as well!), but your doc referred us to an eye specialist, and they said you are perfect! No eye patch for you!
At the doctor last week for your one year check-up, you weighed: 22.3 lbs (65%), length: 31.25 in. (95%), and head: 19.25 in. (98%)
There has never been a visit for either you or Isaac when your heads were not 95 - 98%! Ever!
The doctor always just pats your heads and says "All that good brain in there!"
